The Oklahoma baseball team may be ready to start the season, but Kimrey Family Stadium isn’t.
OU was originally set to open the home portion of its 2026 season Feb. 17 against New Mexico State. Last week’s winter storm, however, delayed construction at the stadium and now it won’t be ready in time. So Oklahoma will play NMSU at Globe Life Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The date is staying the same.

The Sooners will already be down in the Metroplex, anyway. Coach Skip Johnson’s team is set to open the season as a whole the weekend before at the home of the Texas Rangers. They open against Texas Tech on Friday, Feb. 13, then play Oklahoma State on Saturday and Texas Christian on Sunday.
Ā«The extra few days will greatly benefit our construction crews after the winter storm we had,Ā» Johnson said. Ā«We’re extremely appreciative of their commitment to finishing this step of the project for us to play on our home field this season.Ā»
Johnson announced Tuesday that Cam Johnson would serve as the team’s opening-day starter against the Red Raiders. Tech didn’t find itself in any of the four preseason Top 25 rankings and neither did OSU. TCU, however, ranks anywhere from preseason No. 9 to preseason No. 11.
New Mexico State was picked ninth in the Conference USA preseason poll, though the Aggies did pick up one first-place votes. They last made the NCAA Tournament in 2022.
