The 2026 Winter Olympics saw its first full day of competition Saturday with a litany of dramatic events — but no medals whatsoever for Team USA.

The American medal count sits at zero after the end of five events in Day 1. No country has more than one gold, with Italy, Japan, Norway, Sweden and Switzerland all winning a single event. The first three countries are all tied in the total medal race, with one gold, one silver and one bronze each.
Obviously, there are still many events to go, and Team USA is already set up well for gold in team figure skating after ending Day 1 with a five-point lead despite a down performance from star Ilia Malinin.
The closest an American got to some hardware was 17-year-old snowboarder Ollie Martin, who sat in position for bronze in big air with one run left for defending Olympic champion Su Yiming of China. Yiming didn’t perfectly execute his final jump, but the degree of difficulty helped him leapfrog Miller in the final standings.
Here’s where the medal count stands going into competition on Sunday:
