Boxing got a little bit of the spotlight at last night’s Super Bowl.
During Bad Bunny’s halftime show, unified super welterweight titleholder Xander Zayas and prospect Emiliano Vargas were seen with the gloves on, throwing some hands. No contact, of course. They have to be paid more for that sort of thing.
While it’s not likely to make either man a household name, it’s still a pretty cool thing in general and obviously a huge moment for both young fighters.
The 23-year-old Zayas (23-0, 13 KO), who is from San Juan, Puerto Rico, just unified the WBO and WBA 154 lb titles with a win over Abass Baraou on January 31 in his hometown.
The 21-year-old Vargas (16-0, 13 KO) — the standout son of Fernando Vargas and a budding star at 140 lbs — is set to return on February 28 in Arizona.
Vargas also shared a behind the scenes photo of himself, Zayas, and Bad Bunny:
