Kyler Murray trade: How much can Arizona Cardinals get in return

One of the biggest questions of this offseason for the Arizona Cardinals this offseason will be what they do with quarterback Kyler Murray.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports the Cardinals are actively seeking to trade him.

Hwo much could they get for him?

According to ESPN’s Ben Solak, it won’t likely be much. He projects only a Day 3 pick.

Why?

Injury uncertainty

Murray didn’t play after Week 5 when he injured his foot. It looked like initially he would come back after about a month, but then he was placed on injured reserve and reports said it just never got better.

A quarterback who relies on athleticism for a big part of his game and has a lingering foot injury that was slow to heal is not going to be desired.

The question is whether he is now healed. When did he heal and was the IR stint more about avoiding controversy with Jacoby Brissett as the starter.

His contract

A team trading for Murray before his roster bonus is due on March 15 gets a solid deal for an established starter. However, if a team is acquiring him as a veteran flyer, it is costly.

He will be paid $22.8 million salary in 2026 and a $17 million roster bonus, all guaranteed. On March 15, his $19.5 million salary will become guaranteed, and he will be due a $14.2 million roster bonus, including a $2 million bonus in training camp, plus two years of workout bonuses worth over $3.6 million total.

In all, it is nearly $77.2 million over two years in financial commitment. That’s not crazy for a solid starter, but if a team views him as uncertain, it is very expensive.

The Cardinals will likely have to either take on a chunk of money, something that hasn’t been reported they will be willing to do, take little in return or release him.
