Arizona Cardinals interviewed Seattle assistant Karl Scott for DC job

The Arizona Cardinals have not yet made a decision about a defensive coordinator, but another candidate has come up, and it could mean poaching someone from another team in the NFC West.

According to CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz, the Cardinals interviewed Seattle Seahawks defensive backs coach and pass game coordinator Karl Scott for their defensive coordinato job.

Scott has been with the Seahawks since 2022 with those titles, beginning when Pete Carroll was head coach. He was retained on Mike Macdonald’s staff, and Seattle’s defensive backs have been fantastic over the last few seasons with standout play from Julian Love, Coby Bryant, Quandre Diggs, Devon Witherspoon, Riq Woolen and 2025 rookie Nick Emmanwori.

Before that, he coached defensive backs in 2021 for the Minnesota Vikings under head coach Mike Zimmer.

Before that, he worked in the college ranks coaching defensive backs from 2015-2020 for Louisiana Tech, Texas Tech (under former Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury) and Alabama under Nick Saban.

The Cardinals have targeted Gus Bradley, Wink Martindale, Aubrey Pleasant, Dino Vasso and now Scott. Nick Rallis, the defensive coordinator for the last three seasons, is likely under consideration, too.

Bradley became the DC for the Tennessee Titans, Vasso bowed out of all DC jobs and signed a contract extension with the Houston Texans. Pleasant was the favorite but interviewed a bit ago without any news, so that makes it seem that it won’t happen, and he is under consideration for the Cleveland Browns’ DC vacancy.

We will see if Scott is offered a job. He would be a first-time defensive coordinator if that happens.
