No. 24 Texas A&M (5-0) took advantage of «Olson Magic» for the first time this season after defeating Penn 1-0 in the bottom of the ninth, as freshman shortstop Boston Kellner hit a double into center field, scoring Sawyer Farr from second base to stay undefeated on the year.
However, similar to last season, the Aggies are now dealing with two key injuries, as transfer infielder Chris Hacopian has missed the last three games due to an unspecified illness, combined with an apparent back issue, while TexAgs insiders Richard Zane and Ryan Brauninger confirmed that star junior outfielder Caden Sorrell injured his hand on Friday night.

According to Zane, sources told him that Sorrell injured his right glove hand after he was spiked on a slide attempt in the seventh inning, which is always a risk, and resulted in a “nasty” injury that was “pouring blood” and reportedly required stitches between his thumb and index finger. Unsurprisingly, Sorrell will miss Saturday’s game and likely Sunday’s matchup with a chance to return on Tuesday against Lamar.
Texas A&M’s depth will truly be tested, and with Hacopian out of the lineup on Friday, the Aggies recorded just seven hits, while Sorrell, even before his injury, did not produce a hit. Ben Royo will now take over at second base while Travis Chesnut will move to the outfield on Saturday, and likely Sunday.
Texas A&M’s Saturday lineup vs. Penn
Grahovac – 1B
Jordan – DH
Kellner – SS
Duer – LF
Harrison – C
Kiel – RF
Partida – 3B
Chestnut – CF
Royo – 2BRHP Weston Moss (1-0, 7.20 ERA) gets the start.
