Jai Opetaia just recently caught up with some boxing media and discussed his recent deal with Zuffa, his upcoming fight, and his interest in facing the winner of Zurdo Ramirez vs David Benavidez. Opetaia says he won’t be restricted from fighting for other sanctioning body belts as he looks forward to unifying in the near future. Check out some of what he had to say below.
Opetaia on Zurdo claiming he’s not a real champion and someone he could easily beat
“We’ve had that fight ready to go for a long time. I’ve never bad mouthed no one, never disrespected no one, I don’t talk sh-t, but if I’m that easy then why hasn’t the fight happened? We’re here, we’re ready. Take care of business [in your next fight] and we can sort it out.”
On Zuffa’s plans for him to make fights that include other sanctioning bodies
“They’re going to happen. This is what we’re chasing, we’re chasing unifications and big fights. People want to see the best fight the best and we’re the best in the division…(the fights) are getting closer and closer to getting over the line…I spoke to the IBF today, I’m proud to hold that belt. I’m willing to fight for it. I don’t know what going on behind the scenes, I don’t know the ins and outs that much. Becomes a bit of a sticky situation but I’m focused, I’ve got a job to do. I’ve got a fight to win without winning all these fights all the words mean nothing.”
