Cleveland Cavaliers guard James Harden fractured his right thumb on Tuesday night against the New York Knicks, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.

The news hits Cleveland hard, as the Cavs have been rolling since Harden came over at the trade deadline, although it remains unclear how much time The Beard will miss.

Harden’s stint with the Cavaliers has been brief but impactful. Cleveland acquired the 11-time All-Star from the Los Angeles Clippers in a trade on February 4, sending Darius Garland to LA.
In his seven games with Cleveland, Harden has averaged 18.9 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 8.0 assists per game. He has shot 49.4% from the field and 48.8% from three-point range, providing steady playmaking and efficient scoring while adjusting to his new teammates.
The Cavaliers have responded well to the addition, going 6-1 in those seven contests (with the lone loss to Oklahoma City on February 22). Recent outings for Harden include a 20-point, 9-assist effort in the defeat to the Thunder, followed by 20 points (on 8-18 shooting, including 4-7 from three) and 4 assists in the 109-94 victory over the Knicks.
Cleveland sits at 37-22 overall, positioned strongly in the Eastern Conference standings. Coach Kenny Atkinson has noted the «renewed confidence» Harden brings to the offense.
