Regis Prograis officially has his next fight set as he’ll take on Conor Benn, and speaking to Ring Magazine about this next outing he explains why he’s feeling good about the matchup and his expectations for the fight. Check out some excerpts of what Prograis had to said below.
Prograis on the opportunity to fight Benn in the UK
“Really, it’s the perfect time, the perfect call, the perfect opportunity for me just because I been here training for about five, six weeks training [in Vegas] and I was just waiting for something. I was supposed to fight a bunch of people but everything kind of just fell through.
“They said the name, I said ‘bro, make it happen.’…Conor Benn’s a little big so I think we’re doing it at 150. But I was like, ‘man, just make the fight.’…We got the deal done in like a day.”
On how he feels heading into the fight
“I’m a little older now but I feel like I been getting better. This my second camp here in Vegas and I just think it’s going to get better. I think my last camp with Jojo, one thing I did, one mistake I made was overtrain and stuff like that. I did way, way too much stuff. So now I think I’m going to get it perfectly right. And now I don’t have to make the weight like I used to so now it’s at 150, it’s cool.”
On whether he thinks Benn coming down to 150 will play a factor in their fight
“I’m not sure, I don’t know. We’ll see…Honestly, I’m not really worried about it. I know what I’ve been doing in the gym. I know how good I am. I just see the skills I’m developing now. So that’s what I’m worried about now. I’m not worried about Conor Benn, how big he is and stuff like that.
“I didn’t push back about the weight and I didn’t push back about the [rehydration] clause. Because we could’ve did that, too. I know he did the the same thing with Eubank, he made him do a rehydration clause. I didn’t do that. I didn’t do none of that stuff.”
