Penn State’s Allar healthy, to throw at combine

INDIANAPOLIS — Penn State quarterback Drew Allar will throw at the NFL combine four months after undergoing surgery to repair his broken left ankle.

Allar’s college career ended after six games in 2025 when he sustained the season-ending injury on Oct. 11. While trying to scramble for a first down late in the fourth quarter against Northwestern, Allar was sandwiched by two tacklers. He had to be carted to the locker room.

The 21-year-old quarterback said he has fully recovered.

«If I had to play a game today or tomorrow, I feel like I could go out there and get it done,» Allar said.

Though Allar will not participate in most drills during the combine, he plans to throw for scouts and coaches inside Lucas Oil Stadium.

«My whole focus towards my rehab process has been getting to this point, being healthy enough to have the chance to put myself out there and throw,» Allar said. «I’m really excited to go out there on Saturday and just cut it loose.»

Allar threw for 1,100 yards, eight touchdowns and three interceptions in six games while completing 64.8% of his passes. After losing to Notre Dame in the College Football Playoff semifinals in 2024, the quarterback had his sights set on a Big Ten title and national championship last season.

Instead, Penn State finished 7-6 after a disastrous midseason stretch where the Nittany Lions lost six straight games. During that stretch, Penn State fired coach James Franklin and Allar sustained his season-ending injury.

«Obviously, it’s not what I envisioned,» Allar said. «I’m a firm believer in ‘everything happens for a reason,’ and I’ve just taken this opportunity through this injury to better myself as a person, teammate and as a player. I wouldn’t change a thing. Everything happens for a reason. I’m a firm believer in that, and I know everything’s going to work out for the best in the long run.»
