Schedule release: Timberwolves, Lakers lead top reveals

The NBA offseason checklist ticked a significant item on Thursday with the unveiling of the 2025-26 schedule.

The Oklahoma City Thunder will kick off the season by welcoming Kevin Durant and the Houston Rockets on October 21, followed by a matchup between the Los Angeles Lakers and Golden State Warriors. ESPN will start its regular season coverage the next day as the New York Knicks play host to the Cleveland Cavaliers. Cooper Flagg is set to make his NBA debut in the game afterwards as the Dallas Mavericks take on the San Antonio Spurs.

ESPN/ABC’s Christmas Day slate begins again with the Knicks hosting the Cavaliers, concluding with the Minnesota Timberwolves visiting the Denver Nuggets. Should LeBron James play in the Lakers’ Christmas Day clash against the Rockets, it will mark his 20th holiday game—only 12 NBA franchises have appeared in 20 Christmas contests.

The Thunder, Lakers, Warriors, and Knicks share the lead for the most nationally televised games at 34. The Timberwolves and Rockets follow closely with 28.
