FRISCO, Texas — On Tuesday, Dallas Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer refrained from delving into the details of his discussion with Micah Parsons after the Pro Bowl edge rusher refrained from wearing his jersey and instead laid on a medical table during Friday’s preseason match. However, he firmly believes that Parsons will be ready for the game against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sept. 4.
For the first time, Schottenheimer acknowledged that Parsons might have restrictions in his performance against the reigning Super Bowl champions if he sees action.
«Ultimately, as soon as he can get on the field, that’s fantastic, but there will indeed be a ramp-up plan for him,» Schottenheimer stated. «And when he is out there to compete, do I think he would take on 75 snaps and be out there for every play? Probably not. I don’t see that as realistic. But I do believe he can be quite disruptive, as we all are aware.»
Terry McLaurin and Trey Hendrickson have concluded their holdouts with the Washington Commanders and Cincinnati Bengals, respectively, yet the situation regarding Parsons remains unchanged.
The Cowboys seem satisfied with having Parsons participate in the season under the $21.324 million fifth-year option of his rookie deal. Parsons underwent a back MRI last Friday, which yielded positive results, and Schottenheimer remarked that «at this time,» Parsons has been cleared to practice medically. Following the mandatory three-day break as per league regulations, the Cowboys will resume practice on Friday. They are scheduled for three sessions on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday before heading to Philadelphia.
«Every day that he can engage in reps would be beneficial,» Schottenheimer commented, «but I strongly believe that his presence has been advantageous. Participating in walk-throughs and similar activities is beneficial. There’s communication, signals from the sideline, and interactions among players that he is obtaining from all that.»
«However, the most effective method to improve in football is to play football, so I would assert that the sooner, the better would be the ideal outcome.»
