
Former winger for Everton and Real Madrid, Royston Drenthe, is currently hospitalized following a stroke he experienced last week.
The 38-year-old was taken to the hospital on Friday and is receiving ‘excellent care’.
This information was conveyed by FC de Rebellen, an organization representing ex-football players.
Their announcement states: «Royston Drenthe experienced a stroke last Friday. He is presently in good hands and receiving proper care. The team and those involved are wishing for a quick recovery.»
A former international for the Netherlands, Drenthe initiated his playing journey with Feyenoord before transferring to Real Madrid in 2007, where he secured the La Liga title the following year.
He was loaned to Everton in the 2011-12 season and played for various other clubs, including Reading and Sheffield Wednesday.
Everton expressed their wishes for his swift return to health and posted on X: «Everyone at Everton hopes for Royston Drenthe’s complete and rapid recovery after hearing he has been hospitalized.»
Meanwhile, Reading expressed: “Everyone at Reading Football Club wishes former Royal Royston Drenthe a fast recovery after he became unwell on Friday. Wishing you well soon, Royston.”
Feyenoord shared a picture of Drenthe with the message: “On behalf of all at Feyenoord: we are thinking of you and wishing you all the strength and resilience.”
