Daniel Jones suffers torn Achilles tendon

The Colts have lost their starting quarterback Daniel Jones for the remainder of the season.

According to a source familiar with the circumstances, Jones sustained a torn Achilles tendon during the first half of Sunday’s contest against the Jaguars in Jacksonville.

This was an injury that did not involve contact. As the source noted, both Jones and the Colts recognized instantly that it was torn. Nevertheless, Jones walked to the locker room following the incident.

The injury elevated Riley Leonard to the starting position, while tight end Tyler Warren stepped in as the emergency option.

The Colts were defeated, 36-19, dropping to 8-5. They have lost four out of five games and now face the risk of falling out of playoff contention. They would be the sixth team since the merger to miss the playoffs after starting 7-1 or better, and the first to miss out since the playoff format was expanded to include seven teams per conference.
