Dolphins to hire Jon-Eric Sullivan as new general manager

The Miami Dolphins are finalizing a deal to make Jon-Eric Sullivan their new general manager, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Sullivan spent his entire football career with the Green Bay Packers prior to the hire, first joining the team as a training camp intern in 2003. He became a scout in 2008, director of college scouting in 2016, co-director of player personnel in 2018, and vice president of player personnel in 2022.

“I’ve always been taught the draft is your lifeblood, if you will. You build through the draft. It’s a young man’s game,” Sullivan said in a video posted by the Packers in 2023. “You want to make sure you’re acquiring young, talented players that fit your culture. I think you supplement through free agency.

“I think those are dangerous waters to tread in all the time, because typically teams aren’t moving on from good players that are healthy and good in the locker room. They’re trying to keep those themselves.»

In Miami, he’ll have an opportunity to do that right away with five top 100 selections in the 2026 NFL Draft, including the No. 11 overall selection.

In October, the Dolphins parted with Chris Grier, who was in his 10th season as the team’s general manager. On Thursday, the Dolphins fired Mike McDaniel as head coach.

Sullivan’s father, Jerry Sullivan, spent three decades as a wide receivers coach in the NFL. In 2004, he was the Dolphins’ wide receivers coach.
