Aston Villa head coach Unai Emery has expressed his desire to «find a resolution» regarding Harvey Elliott, who is currently on loan and will «not certainly» be making a permanent move to the club.

The 22-year-old midfielder from Liverpool has seen action only seven times after his transfer to Villa Park on the last day of the transfer window.

A £35 million permanent transfer will be activated if he appears in 10 Premier League matches.

Elliott, who made a significant impact with the England Under-21s during their European Championship triumph last summer, is not part of the squad for the Europa League fixture against Basel on Thursday.

His previous match was as a late substitute against Feyenoord in the Europa League on October 2.

«We are in discussions with him regarding his circumstances. He is not currently with us,» Emery stated when questioned about Elliott on Wednesday.

«Firstly, there’s my choice and the scenario. He is on loan with us, but he is not clearly contributing with a permanent agreement.

«I hope we can achieve the best outcome for him and for the team. I hold him in high regard both as an athlete and an individual. He is training effectively, but we face one condition regarding him.

«I sincerely wish for us to find a resolution that allows him the chance to play regularly and to advance his career, whether that is with us or elsewhere.»

Elliott made only two Premier League starts during Liverpool’s title-winning season last year.

Moreover, he cannot transfer to another team as he has already played for both Villa and his parent club this season – FIFA regulations prohibit players from competing for more than two teams in a single season.
