An international football player has been apprehended in central London on allegations of assault and affray.
Authorities indicated that an occurrence took place during the early hours of Saturday in the West End.
The 29-year-old player was taken into custody at the scene on charges of two counts of assault and one count of affray.
His identity is withheld for legal purposes.
Police informed BBC Sport that they were dispatched to the scene at 00:47 GMT on Saturday after receiving reports of an assault.
The purported victim was transported to the hospital with injuries that authorities stated were not considered life-altering or life-threatening.
The player has been granted bail while inquiries by the police proceed.
In the UK, the name of an arrested individual is seldom disclosed or confirmed by the authorities.
This policy was implemented following the Leveson Inquiry into the UK media in 2012, which recommended that arrested suspects should only be identified in «exceptional and clearly identified circumstances».
Typically, a name is released if charges are brought against a suspect.
