Though Maheshate held a distinct edge in striking during the first round, Young began to adjust his rhythm in round two, consistently landing his jab and incorporating takedown attempts.
As the bout seemed evenly matched heading into the third round, Young showcased his grappling prowess, pinning Maheshate against the cage. With fewer than 90 seconds remaining, Maheshate attempted a takedown of his own, but was unable to bring Young down.
As time ticked away, Maheshate connected with a substantial left hook that caused Young to clinch up, keeping Maheshate’s back against the fence until the round’s end.
