Atlanta Hawks All-Defensive player Dyson Daniels has finalized a four-year, $100 million rookie contract extension with the team, as confirmed by agent Daniel Moldovan of Lighthouse Sports Management to ESPN.
Last season, Daniels was honored as the NBA’s Most Improved Player of the Year, finished second for Defensive Player of the Year, earned a spot on the first team All-Defense, and recorded 229 steals, the highest single-season total since Gary Payton in 1995-96.
The Hawks announced the agreement on Monday without revealing the contract specifics.
Selected as the eighth overall pick in the 2022 NBA draft, Daniels had averages of 14.1 points (up from 5.8 in 2023-24), 5.9 boards, 4.4 assists, and 3.0 steals last year, becoming the first player to hit an average of three steals since Alvin Robertson in 1990-91.
The Hawks acquired Daniels along with a first-round draft choice from the New Orleans Pelicans in exchange for Dejounte Murray in July 2024, and the combination of defensive-focused Daniels with star point guard Trae Young has proven effective in Atlanta.
Daniels has become a key player for the Hawks, who view Jalen Johnson and the 2024 No. 1 draft pick Zaccharie Risacher as foundational pieces on the wings.
