‘He’s significantly improved now’: Lawrence Okolie mentions Jake Paul has a strong opportunity to perform well against Anthony Joshua

With Jake Paul set for a monstrous challenge tonight when he takes on former unified heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua on Netflix, Lawrence Okolie tells Sky Sports of the time he’s spent in camp with Paul and the improvements he’s seen during that time.

Okolie says when he first arrived at Paul’s camp to aid him in his preparation for this fight he was told that he was free to give 100% effort in the sparring sessions. Okolie says the experience was quite beneficial, especially considering the level of fighters participating in that camp, which included Jared Anderson and Frank Sanchez. Paul held his own in those sparring sessions, as Okolie relates.

”I was surprised. Watching him spar other guys, and surprised actually by how hard he was to do what I usually do against people. I couldn’t just walk him down and beat on him.

“He’s way better now than when I first saw him. Genuinely I was scared for him when they said he was going to fight AJ. I thought he wouldn’t be able to spend the money, but now if he boxes how he sparred, he’s got a good chance of looking really good.”

Okolie would continue on by saying that Paul is a lot better than he originally thought, and that if Paul approaches tonight’s fight the same way he has his sparring sessions that a lot of fans are going to be shocked by the performance he’ll be able to pull off, and doesn’t see this as inevitable whitewashing by Joshua.

Whatever the case may be, all will be revealed live on Netflix tonight at 8pm ET. Join us!
