New York Jets supporters were probably focused on Friday night’s Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl, showcasing the top two quarterbacks of the 2026 draft class, Fernando Mendoza and Dante Moore.

The Jets clearly have a need at quarterback, and they are poised to select a new signal-caller with the No. 2 overall pick in April’s draft. However, what if they choose to take a different route and wait until 2027 to secure their franchise quarterback?
The standout of the 2027 draft is Texas quarterback Arch Manning, and with three first-round picks in that draft, New York could be perfectly positioned to trade up and acquire the newest NFL quarterback from the Manning family. But would the Mannings permit Arch to join the Jets?
Connor Hughes dampens enthusiasm for Arch Manning to the Jets
After Moore tossed a pick-six on the first play of the Peach Bowl, an X user suggested to Jets insider Connor Hughes that New York should «wait for Arch.»

Hughes’ reply may be disheartening for some Jets fans.
«The Manning family will have him pursuing his doctorate before allowing him to play for the Jets 😂😂,» Hughes replied.
Peyton Manning had the chance to enter the 1997 NFL Draft when the Jets had the No. 1 overall pick, but he chose to return to Tennessee for another year, likely at his father’s suggestion.
And everyone recalls the 2004 NFL Draft when Eli Manning was picked No. 1 overall by the San Diego Chargers but refused to play for them, ultimately being traded to the New York Giants.

It’s not unlikely that the Mannings might try to influence Arch’s destination as well, considering the family’s historical context.
