The San Francisco 49ers have placed running back Christian McCaffrey on the injury report as of Saturday, rendering him questionable for the upcoming Sunday clash against the Tennessee Titans due to a back concern.
Despite being marked questionable, a source conveyed to ESPN’s Adam Schefter that McCaffrey is anticipated to be «good to go» for the game versus Tennessee.
Upon the Niners’ return from their bye this week, McCaffrey remarked on Wednesday that he felt «rested and recovered,» opting for his standard veteran rest that day. He was subsequently limited in Thursday’s practice due to an illness but participated fully in Friday’s practice, which entailed mostly a walk-through.
Brian Robinson is poised to take on the starting running back position, with Isaac Guerendo and rookie Jordan James as possible backups. Guerendo has solely contributed to special teams, not taking any offensive snaps, while James has yet to make an appearance in any games this season.
«To me, Brian’s last seven games have probably been his best games consecutively,» Shanahan stated on Friday when queried about James’s lack of activity. «I believe he just continues to improve. I’ve been truly excited with [James] in practice, and getting four players active would be amazing, but offensive utilization typically requires just two. Therefore, it must align with the remainder of the roster.»
McCaffrey has undeniably been at the center of San Francisco’s offense and a significant factor in the team’s 9-4 record this season. He ranks third in the NFL for scrimmage yards (1,655), fourth for total touchdowns (14), and is on track to make history as the first player to surpass 1,000 rushing and 1,000 receiving yards in a season on multiple occasions.
