HENDERSON, Nev. — Wide receiver Jakobi Meyers of the Las Vegas Raiders, who is in the last year of his contract, is uncertain if a new agreement will be finalized with the team.
«Honestly, I have no idea,» Meyers stated on Wednesday. «… I’m not worried. If it doesn’t happen, I’ll be fine anyway.»
Meyers had hoped to finalize a deal before the season opener against the New England Patriots on Sunday. With negotiations at a standstill, he sought a trade, but the request was declined by the team.
Star Terry McLaurin of the Washington Commanders recently agreed to a three-year contract worth $96 million.
Khalil Shakir of the Buffalo Bills, Rashod Bateman of the Baltimore Ravens, Courtland Sutton of the Denver Broncos, and the Cincinnati Bengals’ Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins also inked new contracts ahead of the 2025 season.
The Raiders have also demonstrated a commitment to securing important veterans for the long term. Defensive end Maxx Crosby (3 years, $106.5 million), quarterback Geno Smith (2 years, $75 million), punter AJ Cole (4 years, $15.8 million), and left tackle Kolton Miller (3 years, $66 million) have all received contracts under Spytek.
Meyers feels he has positioned himself well for a new contract. Last year, he caught 87 passes for a career-high 1,027 yards and four touchdown receptions. He had a drop rate of 1.6% on 129 targets.
He has achieved at least 800 receiving yards for four straight seasons.
«I’ve shown enough to earn my spot here,» Meyers commented. «I thought they would recognize that [but] they don’t. … It is what it is.»
