Osaka makes a comeback to the US Open semifinals 5 years following her championship win

Naomi Osaka continued her impressive comeback at the US Open, defeating No. 11 Karolina Muchova 6-4, 7-6 (3) on Wednesday night, marking her return to the semifinals at Flushing Meadows for the first time since clinching the title five years prior.

The 23rd-seeded Osaka now holds a perfect 5-0 record in major quarterfinals — all on hard courts — maintaining a pattern that has seen her claim the championship each time she has reached the last eight at a Grand Slam.

Coco Gauff 6-3, 6-2 in the round of 16 and has conceded only one set throughout the tournament.

Osaka’s triumph over Muchova marks her sixth consecutive tour-level victory against a WTA top-20 player, matching the longest streak of her career, from 2019-20.

Amanda Anisimova, who created an upset by defeating No. 2 Iga Swiatek earlier on Wednesday less than two months after falling to the six-time Grand Slam champion in the Wimbledon final 6-0, 6-0.
