Packers place LB Kristian Welch on injured reserve

Alongside multiple changes to the concluding injury report, which included the demotion of quarterback Jordan Love to out for Saturday evening’s matchup against the Baltimore Ravens, the Green Bay Packers executed a roster adjustment on Friday, placing linebacker and special teams player Kristian Welch on injured reserve. No immediate corresponding adjustment to replace Welch on the 53-man roster was executed on Friday.

Welch sustained an ankle injury during the game against the Chicago Bears in Week 16 and missed the entire week’s practices. He was declared out in Thursday’s final injury report.

Welch participated in eight games with the Packers in 2025. He was brought onto the 53-man roster from the practice squad in November to take the place of Nick Niemann, who was placed on injured reserve due to a pectoral injury. Across the eight games, Welch recorded three assisted tackles during kick and punt coverage. Rich Bisaccia utilized him for snaps in punt coverage, kick coverage, punt return, and kickoff return, and Welch’s season concludes after playing 87 total snaps on special teams.

The Packers are expected to promote rookie Jamon Johnson — the sole off-ball linebacker on the practice squad — to assist in compensating for Welch’s absence on special teams. He participated in 11 snaps as an elevated player in Week 13 against the Detroit Lions.
