Patriots allegedly inking former third-round selection from practice squad

The New England Patriots signed linebacker Chad Muma off the Indianapolis Colts’ practice squad on Monday, according to NFL insider Jordan Schultz.

This would be the corresponding move to the team announcing linebacker Caleb Murphy being waived.

Muma was selected by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the third round with the 70th overall pick in the 2022 NFL draft. He was waived by the Jaguars in August as part of their final roster cuts and picked up by the Colts a day later. He recorded five tackles with the team during his tenure in Indianapolis.

Murphy was claimed on waivers on October 20. He played in five games, totaling two special teams tackles with the Patriots.

Muma has been predominantly used on special teams throughout his NFL tenure. So the Patriots are likely looking to boost their special teams unit, which struggled in the loss to the Buffalo Bills on Sunday.

He was highly touted coming out of college, and he’ll once again have a fresh chance to change the narrative on his NFL run.
