For the second straight year, a Longhorn tight end is expected to hear their name called in the NFL Draft. Last year, it was Gunnar Helm; now, the focus is on Jack Endries. Although he was only a Longhorn for one season, Endries made the most of his opportunities, which has made him a popular name at the NFL Combine.
One of the teams that has reportedly already met with Endries is the Philadelphia Eagles. Currently, the Eagles only have one tight end under contract in EJ Jenkins. Their starter from the last few seasons is Dallas Goedert, who is currently a free agent.
If the Eagles were to add Endries, they would be getting a player who was productive in college while playing for two programs. The California native finished his college career with 124 receptions and 1,377 receiving yards. He also found the end zone seven times while playing for Cal and Texas.

In his only season with Texas, the Monte Vista Alum was one of Arch Manning’s favorite targets. He hauled in 33 catches while recording 346 receiving yards. While his time in Austin was short, Endries was a weapon on offense and had high praise for Manning at the combine.
«It felt like he was going for six touchdowns just by himself,» Endries said. «In the air or on the ground game. I wish we had a playoff run. I think we would have made a run with him at quarterback and the rest of our team.»
While the Eagles have made their interest clear, more teams should join the mix as the draft approaches. At Cal and Texas, Endries should that he could be a valuable piece on offense and thrived regardless of who was under center.
