Ravens believe QB Jackson will play vs. Steelers

OWINGS MILLS, Md. — Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken stated on Thursday that he anticipates quarterback Lamar Jackson will be ready to face the Pittsburgh Steelers, despite the fact that the two-time NFL MVP has been sidelined from practice due to an ankle injury.

«I really admire him – he’s pushing through and trying to get fit enough to compete every Sunday,» Monken remarked. «What I see is someone battling through consistent minor injuries that are preventing him from practicing daily.»

After a 32-14 defeat against the Cincinnati Bengals on Thanksgiving night, Jackson faced a tough outing, committing three turnovers – a season high – and finishing with only 53.1% completion on his passes (17-of-32).

Monken noted it’s «challenging to assess» the influence of Jackson’s lack of practice on his recent performances. Throughout this season, Jackson has contended with a growing variety of injuries including those to his hamstring, knee, toe, and ankle.

Ravens tight end Mark Andrews expressed his support for Jackson during this challenging period, while asserting that Jackson is inherently capable. «He is Lamar Jackson. He is such an exceptional athlete,» Andrews stated. «I have unwavering confidence in him, always.»

If Jackson is unable to play on Sunday, Tyler Huntley will take over as Baltimore’s quarterback. Historically, when Jackson does not start, the Ravens have a record of 5-12 (.294) since 2018.
