While Moses Itauma has been a fast-rising prospect in the heavyweight division, he himself has been lamenting the difficulty in securing his next fight date as he looks to keep his momentum rolling. With Itauma now not expect to return to action until the new year rolls around, Richard Torrez tells Sky Sports that heās more than willing to take the assignment.
āI wonāt duck any smoke. Iām here for the action and I want that competition. I want to see who the best heavyweight is. Not just in the USA, not just in the UK but in the world. Thatās what weāre fighting for here,ā Torrez told Sky Sports. āWeāre fighting for the entire planet, letās see whoās that baddest man.ā
The 26-year-old Torrez (13-0, 11 KOs) continued by saying that while many other of his heavyweight contemporaries are busy calling out the likes of Anthony Joshua and other older heavies, heās specifically calling for this Itauma fight that would match two young, strong fighter in their physical primes.
Torrez adds that heās perfectly willing to head to the UK to make a fight against Itauma happen and that should make any potential negotiations much easier, and also believes heāll bring a style to the table that may not be innately favorable for Itauma, which would only serve to make it a more interesting fight.
For now Torrez is on the schedule for a November 15 fight against a low-level opponent in Tomas Salek, which he hopes will lead him into this much bigger fight in 2026.
