Should the Ravens make retaining Alohi Gilman a priority in free agency?

In a league built with parity as its backbone, Baltimore Ravens fans can find reason to be excited. Teams can go from living in the outhouse to the penthouse in a single season. Think about what we just saw in 2025. Though no one outside of the New England Patriots organization wanted this, they again catapulted themselves into another Super Bowl. This came after the 4-13 campaign under Jerod Mayo.

Ravens fans won’t like the Patriots example. Here’s instead some encouragement for the days ahead. Baltimore came oh so close to another AFC North title.

They have a solid foundation, and a few wise moves could place them right back in contention for a deep playoff run again next season. Their handling of the offseason will play a huge role in how the 2026 season turns out.

Remember that it isn’t always the high-profile signings that hit the bullseye. Sometimes, it’s those role players on the roster, and Alohi Gilman is certainly a name to watch once free agency begins.

Keep an eye on underrated free-agent decisions like the one involving Alohi Gilman.

Free agency and the NFL Draft make building a winning roster easier and more attainable than ever. Add a few difference-makers, and you’re right back in contention for the coming season.

In Baltimore’s case, Alohi Gilman was one of the guys added in-season. That idea paid off. He provided an immediate contribution, and in 12 games with the Ravens, he notched 67 tackles, six pass breakups, a forced fumble, two fumble recoveries, and a defensive TD.

He’s one of the Ravens’ 24 impending free agents. He’ll have options if Baltimore moves on, but after trading Odafe Oweh and swapping picks, there’s reason to believe that Baltimore may want to keep its investment.

He has a history with Jesse Minter from their days together with the Los Angeles Chargers, so he could stay put. He could also follow John Harbaugh to the New York Giants.

There’s another option. Due to his relationship with Brandon Staley, he could follow his former head coach to the New Orleans Saints. Baltimore would be wise, however, to remember his contributions of a season ago.

Coach Minter already called Kyle Hamilton a weapon. Let’s not forget that it was Gilman’s addition that allowed Baltimore the flexibility to move Hamilton around. That wrinkle is something that Anthony Weaver’s defense can build on in 2026.
