SEATTLE — In a strategic move to enhance their ailing receiving unit, the Seahawks have traded for Rashid Shaheed from the New Orleans Saints on Tuesday, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
In exchange, Seattle will send fourth- and fifth-round picks in 2026 to New Orleans, the source revealed.
This season, Shaheed, 27, has recorded 44 receptions for 499 yards and two touchdowns over nine games. He reunites with Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak, who previously held the same role with the Saints last year. Shaheed’s arrival provides crucial support in the receiving corps, as Jaxon Smith-Njigba is currently backed up due to injuries to Cooper Kupp, Jake Bobo, and Dareke Young.

Beyond his receiving capabilities, Shaheed also brings extensive punt and kickoff return experience. He was honored as a Pro Bowler and a first-team AP All-Pro kick returner in 2023, an area where the Seahawks have a need as Young has been sidelined.

Last season, despite playing just six games due to a meniscus injury, Shaheed managed to accumulate three receiving touchdowns and a punt return touchdown. This year, he has one kick return and ten punt returns following his recovery.
With Kupp (heel, hamstring), Bobo (Achilles), and Young (hip) missing from the Seahawks’ recent victory over the Washington Commanders—which improved Seattle’s record to 6-2 and put them in a tie for first place in the NFC West with the Los Angeles Rams—Shaheed’s addition is fortuitous.
Having gone undrafted from Weber State in 2022, Shaheed signed a one-year, $5.2 million extension in 2024, which included a $1 million signing bonus. He was due $4.2 million in base salary this season, but the Seahawks will only owe him $2.1 million for the remainder of the 2025 campaign. Following this season, he is set to become an unrestricted free agent.
In his career so far, Shaheed has recorded a total of 138 catches for 2,055 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns, in addition to one career rushing touchdown and two punt return touchdowns.
