Fulton (23-1, 8 KO), who lifted the WBC featherweight title from Brandon Figueroa in February and competed at super bantamweight as recently as 2023, was due to make his debut at 130. My guess is that, much like the various MMA fighters that made this error, the prospect of extra wiggle room caused Fulton to lose discipline in his preparation.
As Carlos Linares notes in the link above, the fight is still on at time of writing, with Fulton likely to surrender a chunk of his purse to Foster (23-3, 12 KO). Fulton is ineligible to win the belt, which would instead go vacant if he emerged victorious. This also seems to put the kibosh on a return to 126, likely leading to the elevation of interim titlist Bruce Carrington.
This marks the third bout adversely affected during fight week after Janibek Alimkhanuly and Alexis Gaytan returned adverse findings in pre-bout drug tests. Alimkhanuly foe Erislandy Lara will instead face Johan Gonzalez, while Gaytan opponent Elijah Garcia is off the card entirely.
