Tar Heels drop to No. 16 in latest AP Top 25 poll

After North Carolina shot up to No. 11 in the AP poll last week, it has now dropped five spots to No. 16.

This isn’t a surprise, given that North Carolina lost its midweek game to Miami on Tuesday. The Tar Heels did bounce back with a win over Pitt, however.

UNC is the third-highest-ranked team in the ACC, behind Duke (No. 3) and Virginia (No. 14). The other top 25 team is Louisville (No. 21). UNC defeated Duke and Virginia earlier this season and will play Louisville on Feb. 23.

Clemson and Miami received votes. Clemson dropped out of the top 25 with losses to Virginia Tech and Duke. Both Clemson (20-6, 10-3 ACC) and Miami (20-5, 9-3 ACC) could find themselves in the top 25 with wins this week.

The Tar Heels will take on N.C. State in Raleigh on Tuesday before traveling to upstate New York to face Syracuse on Saturday.
