Texans S Ward out of jail; Aug. 13 court date set

Houston Texans safety Jimmie Ward was released from jail Friday, a day after being arrested for a second time in two months due to a violation of his bail conditions.

Here’s a clearer breakdown of the situation:

What’s happened so far

1. Initial arrest (June 12, 2025)

Ward was arrested in Magnolia, Texas, on charges of felony assault involving alleged choking and threats against the mother of his child. An emergency protective order was issued, and he was released on a $30,000 bond.

2. Second arrest (August 7, 2025)

Ward was detained again—this time for testing positive for alcohol, which violated the zero-tolerance bail condition prohibiting alcohol consumption. His attorney, Steve Jackson, stated Ward misunderstood, believing only intoxication was forbidden—not all alcohol use.

He spent the night in Montgomery County Jail and was released the following day.

Legal milestones ahead

  • August 13, 2025: Ward is scheduled to appear in court for an information-setting hearing. This largely establishes procedural direction rather than resolving the case itself.

  • August 31, 2025: The case will go before a grand jury. His lawyer expects it to be «no-billed,» meaning dismissed at that stage.

Impact on the Texans and the NFL

  • Ward is still on the active/physically unable to perform (PUP) list due to an offseason foot surgery and has not practiced in training camp yet.

  • The NFL is investigating this matter under its personal conduct policy, and potential disciplinary action remains a possibility—even before a legal conclusion.
