Texas A&M junior cornerback re-signs with the Aggies for 2026

Texas A&M’s secondary will welcome stud Colorado safety transfer Tawfiq Byard to the 2026 secondary. On paper, the Aggies’ safety rotation is in fantastic shape after Bryce Anderson entered the transfer portal. With a need to vastly improve the run defense, Byard’s ability to shoot the gap and serve as a hybrid linebacker will be key to enhancing the defense’s run-stopping.

At cornerback, the return of incoming junior Dezz Ricks was equally big news, as the former five-star prospect is coming off his best season and will provide a veteran presence with senior cornerback Will Lee III departing for the 2026 NFL Draft.

Ricks enters the offseason as the clear-cut No. 1 cornerback, while the second and third options are yet to be determined. However, on Tuesday night, it was revealed that junior CB Julio Humphrey has re-signed with the Aggies and will return in 2026. This is significant news for the future rotation, already knowing what Humphrey brings to the table, while his elite speed is also noteworthy.

Due to veteran players in front of him, Humphrey appeared statistically in five games, recording seven tackles and one pass deflection. Standing at 6’1″ and nearly 200 pounds, Humphrey’s starting experience at both Georgia and Texas A&M will bode well for what will be his final season with the Aggies, and he will compete with Jordan Shaw or a transfer addition for the other outside corner job.
