Absolutely! The Miami Hurricanes celebrated their inaugural CFP victory in the program’s history today against Texas A&M in front of an electrifying home audience at Kyle Field, with a score of 10-3. Miami put on a defensive spectacle by restricting the Aggies to merely three points on their home turf, while generating three turnovers and achieving seven sacks.
Now, let’s highlight the three stars of the match.

1. The defense
Incredible. Corey Hetherman’s defense delivered an outstanding performance. The defensive line excelled at containing Marcel Reed while effectively stifling the run offense. Bain and Mesidor (the top defensive end duo nationally) combined for ten total tackles, 4.5 sacks, and 5.5 TFLs. The linebackers ensured that A&M’s running backs couldn’t break through. Wishing the best for Mo Toure. I hope he’s doing well. Additionally, they managed to keep Reed subdued for much of the matchup. And then there was the secondary. Outstanding. Keionte Scott made a significant return: ten total tackles, two sacks, three TFLs, and a forced fumble. He appeared as if he hadn’t missed a beat. Fantastic. Freshman safety Bryce Fitzgerald showcased his talent to non-Miami supporters nationwide today. He recorded two interceptions, one of which was the game-sealing pick in the end zone. A true masterclass demonstrated today across all three positions.
2. Mark Fletcher Jr.
I recently heard D$ mention in a Canes In Sight episode that he anticipated a breakout performance from Fletcher today. He was spot on. The strong back concluded the game with 172 yards on 17 carries. He also achieved the longest run of his career today, a remarkable 56-yard sprint that highlighted Fletcher’s speed and strength. In addition to his rushing, he was effective in blocking too, paving the way for Malachi Toney’s game-winning touchdown. What an outstanding day for Big Fletch.
3. Malachi Toney
The Aggies executed a solid strategy against Malachi Toney today. He amassed only 22 yards on five receptions and suffered a turnover with a fumble in the fourth quarter. Nevertheless, Miami’s star freshman stepped up when it was crucial. Initially, he was just an inch shy of returning a punt for a score in the first half. So close. Toney remained composed and persistent, knowing his team would eventually need him. That fourth-quarter-third-down-touch-pass play calling from Beck was flawlessly executed. Toney walked into the end zone with minimal resistance. I also loved the celebration.
Honorable mention:
No one today. It’s time to rejoice in the victory! Let’s go!
