North Carolina picked up a much-needed player for a thin tight end group as the Tar Heels added former Colorado State tight end Jaxxon Warren.
Warren, who visited Chapel Hill over the weekend, is the fourth player to commit to Carolina. Although Warren played only in the first two games of the 2025 season, the 6-foot-7, 255-pound Flower Mound, Texas, native caught seven passes for 95 yards and a touchdown. He has three years of eligibility remaining.
Most of that production came in the season opener against Washington, when he caught six passes for 79 yards and a touchdown. His season ended after two games because of an injury. He also redshirted in 2024 after surgeries on both shoulders.

Before he arrived at Colorado State, he played in nine games at wide receiver for Navarro Junior College in 2023, catching 17 passes for 308 yards and two touchdowns. He spent spring and fall camp at North Texas that year before transferring to Navarro.
Like the wide receiver group, the tight end group lacks the numbers and playmakers UNC needs, but this unit does not have a proven returner like Jordan Shipp in the receiving corps. UNC got little production from its tight ends in the passing game last season.
The one player who did contribute as a receiver, Jake Johnson, is entering the transfer portal. For a quarterback, whether young or experienced, a reliable tight end is critical — a target he can trust over the middle and in the flats. Connor Cox, used more as a blocking tight end last season for the Tar Heels, will also enter the transfer portal. Jordan Owens also ran out of eligibility as well.
The group is down to Warren and Shemar Easter as its main options. Easter is unproven as both a blocker and a pass catcher.
