Wrexham have ‘honest chat’ as unbeaten run ends

Phil Parkinson stated that he anticipates a reaction from Wrexham following Hull City capitalizing on an unusually lackluster display, bringing an end to their nine-match unbeaten streak in the Championship.

The Red Dragons experienced their first league defeat since their game against Stoke on Oct. 18, as Kyle Joseph and reintroduced substitute Oli McBurnie secured the Tigers a 2-0 victory at the MKM Stadium.

Kieffer Moore squandered a prime opportunity for Wrexham in the first half and had a second-half penalty saved by Ivor Pandur, yet few would dispute that Hull merited Wednesday’s win.

Even Parkinson commended the home side, having observed his team falter from the stands and underperform during the first half.

«We simply weren’t at the required level tonight, and I need to reflect on that — my contribution to it, along with the entire staff and the players themselves,» remarked the Wrexham manager.

«However, we will tackle this together. The players have provided a lot for us, but tonight we fell short of expectations, and we will be prepared for action this weekend.»

Parkinson mentioned that he communicated his thoughts on the performance to the players in the locker room post-match, having granted them Thursday off to recuperate from the return journey to north Wales.

«We just had an open conversation with the lads,» he stated. «We simply weren’t at the necessary standard tonight, and we must be candid about that.

«It’s quite rare during my entire tenure at Wrexham to experience a 45 minutes that was so uncharacteristic of us.

«Tonight’s initial 45 minutes was indeed one of those displays, but against a strong opponent as well. They deserve credit; they performed excellently.

«We will look to bounce back, naturally. That’s the essence of football.

«We might feel a bit low tomorrow because losing isn’t something we appreciate. No one enjoys it in football, but we will collaborate as a team, and we’ll aim for a solid performance this weekend.»

Wrexham, now positioned 14th in England’s second tier, will seek to recover at home against Watford on Saturday.
